Top Ten of 2011

This is one of my favorite posts to do. As the year rolls along, I make mental notes about songs--I love them, I hate them, the lyrics are so lame they offend me, or so great they inspire me. Here goes.

Best Songs of 2011

Adele--Rumor Has It, Someone Like You, Rolling In The Deep. 2011 belonged to Adele--no doubt about it. The raw emotion on her songs is powerful and moving. I sometimes feel like a creepy stalker reading her diary when I listen to Someone Like You.

Snow Patrol--Called Out In The Dark. Best song of the year. Hands down. Watch it HERE.

Good Feeling--Flo Rida. A departure from his earlier sound. Mostess liki.

Mr. Saxobeat--Alexandra Stan. Of course I have to have at least one Euro techno song that will confuse all of my readers. This is that song.

Selena Gomez--Love You Like a Love Song. For shame. Embarrassing, yes, but still better than a Miley Cyrus song. Party in the USA, anyone??

Lil Wayne--How to Love. Not really a fan of his, but I love this song. Good lyrics, and tight beats.

Bruno Mars--Grenade. I love this song. Emotional, powerful, great voice.

Blow--Kesha. Yeah, yeah, I trashed her last year. But this song rules.

Born This Way--Gaga. My one and only entry for her. Adele is the new IT girl. Step aside, Gaga.

Make Some Noise--Beastie Boys. Because it's the Beastie Boys, that's why.

The Worst of 2011

Edge of Glory/Judas/You and I--Gaga. Why? Why? Why? Wasted potential. It sounds like a Cher album.

In The Dark--Dev. I think it's obvious why this song is on here. Stupid lyrics--what guy thinks it's sexy when a woman says "open my body up and do some surgery."

Colbie Caillat--Brighter Than the Sun. A repeat offender. Seems like she would be popular in Provo. Makes me glad I went to a Catholic University in SF.

Novocaine--Frank Ocean. Easily the worst song of the year. I'm so glad this song came and went quickly. Best line--"She's doing porn in the valley--at least she workin." Um, no.

Hold it Against Me--Britney. I can't wait for her next single "Is Your Dad a Baker Because You Have Great Buns."

S & M/California King Bed--Rihanna. You know that girl that tries too hard to be the bad girl? Yeah, that's Rihanna. And don't even get me started on her mattress song. Was her album sponsored by Sleep Train?

Lazy Song--Bruno Mars. Today, I don't feel like doing anything....like listening to this crap song, for instance.

Friday Song--Rebecca Black. Makes me pissed that the internet was invented.

Party Rock Anthem/Sexy and I Know It--LMFAO. Please go away. Please. Don't flood my 2012 list with crap music.

Around My Head--Cage the Elephant. We get it. You're artsy and edgy. You're also lame and boring.

Thoughts? Do you agree? Disagree? Hate me because I bagged on Gaga? Mad that The Biebs didn't make either list with his Christmas album?? Let's hear it!

Past lists Here, Here, and Here.

Fall Fun

Our fall fun has started! This week, I kicked off the fun with the music class at church. Last year I did a Storytime, but this year I am only doing music. I do the first Tuesday of the month, and other teachers take the other weeks. I love it because I'm sure we will all do different things for the class, and the kids will have a fun variety.

A few people asked what CD I used, but I actually created my own playlist. I'm picky when it comes to that stuff--epsecially music for kids. It can't be too cheesy, corny, whiny, etc. I found a great selection at the library. If you can find it, The Cedarmont Kids CD is great. It has 100 classic songs. And you can't beat free! I was going to sign Beezie up for a music class--but the prices are staggering! I am not a cheapskate by any means, but $220 is ca-razy. I'll stick with the church class!

For those who asked, here is what I did this week:

4 Fingerplays
Five Little Monkeys--r-H
Eensy Weensy Spider--Cedarmont Kids
5 Gray Sharks--Various Artists
Baby Bumblebee--Cedarmont Kids

3 Movement/Instructional Songs
Shakin' It--Parachute Express
Following Directions with Exercise--Mark D. Pencil and Kids
Shake Freeze--Little Maestros

3 Circle Songs
Hop Like a Bunny--Kimbo
Stop and Go--Fred Koch
Move the Circle--Tumble Tots

2 Beanbag Songs
Pass the Beanbag--Tumble Tots
Bean Bag Alphabet Rag--Hap Palmer (In reality, I did another bean bag songs--but it sucked. I will use this oldie but goodie down the line)

2 Shaker Songs
Shake! (Your shaker eggs)--We Kids Rock
Shake, Rattle, and Roll--Bill Haley

Beezie also started her gym class! Her boyfriend Braden is also in the class, which is fun. GymKids is basically the cheaper version of Gymboree and/or Little Gym. Same jig, though.

Like two little ships passing in the night

This kid is a bouncer. She loved getting crazy on the trampoline, but some crybaby made us tone it down. Thanks, kid!

This is B's new fall trick--self-feeding! She has mastered the art of sucking these babies bone dry in a matter of seconds. It's so nice. I may keep her on pouch food for life to keep things simple.

She also turned into a mad scientist. Look at that hair! Maybe this is her way of telling us this is her preferred Halloween costume.

Searching for beakers and vials to complete her costume

I have also decided to tackle this beast. I am crafting with Kristine and Sharla tonight, and I am going to teach that Halloween advent calendar a lesson. You just wait!

Top Ten of 2010

It's that time of year again--where I get to spout off about the best and worst songs of the year. You can find previous controversial posts here and here.

Note that these are NOT in order. Let's get this party started!

The Worst Songs of 2010

1. Bedrock by Young Money. What a Piece of crap. I can't even pick out the most annoying lines because they're all annoying.

2. Anything and everything by Kesha. Since when is whining singing? And why does she always look like she crawled out of a trash can. Ugh. Make her go away.

3. Hey Soul Sister by Train. I would give $100 to never hear this song again.

4. Love The Way you Lie by Rhianna and Eminem. Why is Eminem still so angry? Is he still pissed at his ex-wife Kim and his lame mom? Wasn't he mad about that in the 90's? Time to invest in therapy and stop torturing me with your angsty lyrics. The fact that Rhianna has been in a high profile abusive relationship also makes this weird and creepy to me.

5. Need You Now by Lady Antebellum. Lame song about drunken memories and regrets. It was great when Garth did it, but this songs irks me.

6. Every single song by (and featuring) Nicki Minaj. Trying really hard to make that epileptic robot thing work. It's not.

7. Billionaire by Travis McCoy. Again with the unimaginative lyrics, including references to Oprah and Brangelina. Spare me.

8. Airplanes by B.O.B. Ugh.

9. Replay by Iyaz. Shawty is annoying.

10. Magic by B.O.B and Rivers Cuomo. Not magic to my ears.

Bad Song Honorable Mention: Baby by The Biebs. It can't make the official list because I sing it all the time. It's shameful.

The Best Songs of 2010

1. California Gurls and Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. Pop at its best. Love it!

2. Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz. Techno dance beats from a Euro guy. Does it get any better?

3. OMG by Usher. He's single again, and he's back. He kills it on this single.

4. Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. Great video, great lyrics, amazing voice. This is her 3rd year on my top ten list.

5. Sexy Chick by David Guetta and Akon. Another techno heavy jam that makes you want to dance.

6. In My Head by Jason Derulo. Very talented young artist making people crowd the dance floor.

7. I Like It by Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull. Great all around jam.

8. Like a G6 by the Far East Movement. Another great dance song.

9. Undisclosed Desires by Muse. Dark and reminiscent of Depeche Mode. I dig this song.

10. Runaway by Kanye West. Genius to everyone but Taylor Swift.

Best Song Honorable Mention: Bulletproof by La Roux. All around great song.

Agree? Disagree? Hate my top songs? Love Justin Bieber?? Let me have it!

Music Wrap-Up for 2009

As the year starts winding down, I would like to do my annual Top 10 list of favorite songs from 2009. You can find last year's here.

Best Songs of 2009

1. Lady Gaga. Just Dance, Poker Face, Love Game, Paparazzi, Bad Romance...the list is endless. Truly the most talented and original singer in the last 10 years. The new Madonna. She's here to stay.

2. Kings of Leon. Sex on Fire, Use Somebody. Just behind Gaga in originality and creativity. Album is amazing--love the lead singer's voice.

3.The Black Eyed Peas. Boom Boom Pow. This was the jam that kept me up all night long in Vegas.

4. Britney Spears. 3/Circus. Killer dance songs. She continues to reign.

5. Cascada. Evacuate the Dance Floor. Another killer dance song. Look it up on Youtube if you don't know it.

6. Jamie Foxx/T. Pain. Blame it. This song is trashtastic, and I love it.

7. Kid Cudi. Day n Nite. The Crookers remix.

8. Kayne. Heartless. Kanye is Kanye. I'm embarrassed to have him on this list.

9. Muse. Uprising. A solid band with placement on last year's chart as well.

10. T-Swizz. Love Story/You Belong with Me. Funny, talented, cute, dated a Jo Bro. What's not to love?? PS. I should have put her above Kanye to teach him a lesson, but I'm lazy.

And here are the ten songs that made me want to drive off a cliff. If you need to interrogate me, play these songs in a room, and I'll start talking.

Worst Songs of 2009

1. Colbie Caillat. Fallin' For You. Blech.

2. Owl City. Fireflies. I do NOT want to hear about you dancing with and/or receiving affection from bugs. Ever.

3. Leona Lewis. Happy. Does not make me happy.

4. Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat. Lucky. It's a holdover from 2008, but it ruined enough of my 2009 airtime, so it gets a nod. He is also responsible for "I'm Yours."

5. Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. Party in the USA. Kill me now.

6. Beyonce. Sweet Dreams. The stations are really trying to push this one, but they should just throw in the towel. Single Ladies it's not.

7. Black Eyed Peas. I Gotta Feeling...that song sucks.

8. LMFAO. I'm from Miami. Then you should just stay there and stop torturing the rest of the US with your crappy song.

9. Rihanna. Russian Roulette. Love the voice, hate the song.

10. David Archuletta. Every single song, but the "Christmas Album" is by far the biggest offender.

Gimme yours if you're not totally offended. I know Archie has his little Mormon minions around this place.
