The Rock

Lance's adorable cousin and 3/4 of her kids came to SF on a trip. Lucky for us, we talked them into touring THE ROCK. I totally hear Sean Connery saying that as I'm typing. You?

Anywhoo, we had a blast. Angie is an outgoing talker just like me, so we got along swimmingly. The kids liked Beezie...maybe a bit too much. As in 'fought over who got to talk to, push, play with, and feed her' throughout the day. NO complaints. I got free babysitting, and Beezie ate it up.

The funmakers

It was a gorgeous day. February can go either way in the city, but we lucked out in the weather department. It was absolutely gorgeous.

We enjoyed our tour. I'm sad to say that despite living here half my life, I've never been to Alcatraz. I will have to go back when Beezie is a bit older, and able to enjoy the audio tour.

At one point, B felt sleepy, and laid down on the ground. But not before licking the concrete. Sick.

After the tour, we walked around SF, and soaked up the sun. We checked out the lovely sea lions in all their sunbathing glory.

We walked along the Embarcadero, and then made out way down to Gott's for some fancy grub.

Mmmmmm...always a hit. They have the best sweet potato fries in the world.

Thanks for meeting up with us. We'll try and make it back east soon, and you can treat me to a Wahlburger.

In totally unrelated news, Beezie has been dunking her Paddington Bear in the toitie. TWICE. I thought the first time was a fluke, but then she overlooked her other toys, and dunked him again 2 days later. He must look thirsty.

I also found the world's best white elephant gift for this annual party. I present to you....The Dollottoman!

It's a doll....it's a small ottoman...it's a dollottoman! What's not to love? We won a prize for the best worst gift. You know the recipient is having nightmares, and curses us daily for this "great find." You're welcome!

B continues to cute it up with her curly locks, big smiles, and sassy words. Seriously. This kid is secretly watching Jerry Springer, I'm positive of this. She wags her finger and says "no, no, no" while staring you down. Who else could have taught her to talk to the hand? Ain't no way she learned that from me, even though I'm all that and a bag of chips!

Utah Trip

I was lucky enough to tag along with this lovely lady on a roadtrip to Utah--the land of friends, relatives, Tai Pan Trading Company, Kneaders, and Costa Vida/Cafe Rio--not in order of importance.

B did her signature pterodactyl scream intermittently during the 14 hours trip. It was lovely. Did I mention the kids had so much fun they didn't sleep a wink? For 14 hours straight?? Yeah. It was that good. Actually, it wasn't so bad. We had movies running the whole time, but I've made it up by having B read a million books since returning home. Hopefully her mind erased the fact that I let her watch Curious George (at least) two times.

Here's what we did while in Utah.

Saw relatives, who lavished B with love, fun, and attention. She had so much fun with her cousins and Aunts and Uncles.

We got in some peekaboo

Some balloon time

Scotty let B jump on him--nice boy

Played with our fun cousins. I got the privilege of teaching one how to prank call her older sister with an unknown phone number. Coolest Aunt ever.

Everyone was super sweet to Beezie--too bad she didn't return the favor with her poor abused dolly.

I finally got to check out Kneaders. I actually requested lunch there with Brooke, since I've been reading about it for years on her blog. It totally delivered. This lady knows her stuff. We had a fun lunch, then cruised around the mall. And by that I mean we tagged along while Brooke tried on swimsuits and shoes, and I chased B around while she tried to knock over mannequins.

She's so tall and statuesque. I look like I'm Snooki-sized in this picture.

I also got to hang with one of my besties from back in the day, Meredith. We met in 1995, and shared a love of Doc Martens, clubbing until the wee hours, wearings high-waisted jeans, and stalking losers, including two gems named Mario and Miguel that we scrapped over for weeks.

We've evolved. But that didn't stop us from making fun of all the losers we dated until the wee hours of the morning. She said the last time she stayed up until 1:30 AM was with me years ago, and I actually believe her.

We also got to check out the Treehouse Museum in Ogden, and it totally blows all of our museums out of the water. This place is awesome!

This photo is only fair of B, but it shows off my freshly cut and highlighted hair...all for $75. I need to add this to the list of reasons I love this state.

B taking (better) care of the dolly in the hospital nursery at the museum

Reading a book in the old-fashioned schoolhouse. Shout-out to the Ingalls family! My little pioneer.

She also got to drive her older cousins around, much to every one's delight.

I ate an unmentionable amount of Cafe Rio and Costa Vida. I try to overdo it, so it starts to taste gross, and I no longer crave it. It never works, but I still keep on trying. Fight the good fight, I say.

We were expecting super cold weather, but the weather was actually quite pleasant. I had a ton of cold weather wares, but we didn't need any of it. Except the cat hat at breakfast, but that was more a matter of preference.

Thanks to all of our friends and family that took the time to meet up with us. Special thanks to Tai Pan and all the crap you sold me--so much, it required me to bring an extra suitcase home with me. The better to beat Ashley with in the 'Spring Has Sprung' Display-Off Round Four. Let's go!

Oh So Charming

I love holiday themed charms. I have an adorable glass candy corn for Halloween, a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, and a silver gingerbread man for Christmas.

I was getting antsy thinking about Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter without charms. So I did a little shopping trip on Etsy, which was my favorite site this weekend, and got all caught up on the upcoming holidays.

Valentine's Day

St. Patty's

Easter

And this adorable one for my keyring, because it called out to me. I had to answer its call.

I love them! And they're so cheap. It's a fun and easy way to get out of decorating my house for the holidays, because I'm still freaking exhausted from the Display-Off. At least something in my life is getting decorative flair!

Yay or Nay?

How does everyone feel about Mommy Calling Cards? I think I need some. Much to Ashley's chagrin (and utter disbelief), I am always running into people I actively want to befriend.

There was the lady at Erik's Deli with a baby the same age as B. We chatted, we giggled, we were baby mamma soulmates...and then she was gone for good because I didn't know how to ask for her info without sounding like I was hitting on her. I've been with the ol' Ball and Chain for a decade now. I'm out of practice.

It happens all the time. There's a girl in B's class I want to invite to dine and play with us. There's the fun new girl in the ward, but Lancer threw away the scrap of paper I wrote her name on. And on, and on, and on.

First things first--I would never have "Mommy" on the card. Who's creating these cards? Is it Blakely? Then' Mommy' is charming. Is it an adult I'm not related to? Freaking creepy!

So--I think my ideal card would be preppy and crisp--with my name, email, and phone number. Ignore the creepy 'Mommy' biz.

But then I found this adorable card. It's a letterpress, and includes a sketch of your child. I can just see Beezie now, curls on point, adorable bow in hair.

Whether I need some of these cards is not up for debate. Feel free to mock me, just don't try and dissuade me from moving in this direction. I collect friends.

Which card do you like the best? Am I right to be creeped out by the 'Mommy' on the card? Do you love that little Maeve Baldwin card as much as I do? Am I freak? Is my next stop Mommy 'n' Me Horsesback riding lessons in Burberry? Just kidding about that last one. I checked. B can't ride a horse until she's two and a half.

**UPDATE**

I got a set of these in celery. No mention of 'Mommy' or 'Beezie.' Very cute! Can't wait to hand them out!

Little Lady

Little Lady is quite a delight to be around these days. Let's dig deeper. Be warned--I'm about to MOMMY BLOG.

She LOVES dinosaurs.

She totally gets this from us. We both loved dinos as kids. She inherited my T-Rex set--a mamma and a baby. She loves the junky dinos from the Michaels dollar bin. Best $5 ever spent. I even bought her a black t-shirt meant for boys--I figure she can pull it off because I pair it with a bow, leggings, and a tutu. She used to scream in the bath....until we added a dino. Now she's content. When you see her, ask her what a dino says. She will ROAR at you.

She got her first legit smooch yesterday at Pizza Party. She stood up under a chair and bonked her head. Colin was very concerned, and came running over and hugged her...then leaned in for some sweet, sweet sugar. They full-on smooched for about 3 seconds before Beezie got shy, and ran off giggling and covering her eyes. Smooth one, Colin.

Little Lothario

She knows all of the basic animals sounds: cow, dog, cat, duck, dino, and owls. She loves fishies.

She loves to read. We tell her to choose a book, and then come sit in our laps. She loves having us read to her, as well as reading on her own.

She is obsessed with shoes. She says it's more like "choos." Already a Jimmy Choo fan! She collects shoes from throughout out the house, and "helpfully" brings them to us. We always have a pile in the living room. Every time we go to a friend's house, she raids their shoe basket.

She calls every man or boy "Dada!" This is especially embarrassing for teenage boys.

She knows most of her body parts. She is obsessed with belly buttons.

She is the messiest eater in the world.

She loves getting hand stamps at school and gym class.

She likes the short, fat, and round yogurt and ice-cream containers from her kitchen collection. She carries them around all day long, one in each hand.

She has good manners. Always says thank you, working on please.

She is a natural at sharing. She runs after kids trying to force feed them goldfish crackers.

She just discovered the toilet paper roll, and the magazine rack in the bathroom. Ugh.

She wakes up every morning asking for Dada. I tell her he's at work, and she says "go."

She loves Beyonce's Single Ladies, Kool and the Gang's Celebration, and Black Eyed Pea's Boom Boom Pow. She drops down low and shakes her butt. She knows the entire chorus of Single Ladies, and goes around singing "Oh, oh, oh...oh, oh, oh, oh..."

She waltzes with Lancer. They hold hands, and dance around the room, singing. Now when he asks her to dance, she grabs his hand and says "bum, bum, bum."

She squeals like it's Christmas when she sees Lancer come home from work.

She finally got the concept of magnets. She carries her little animal magnet set all over the house looking for places where they'll stick.

She has no idea she's a single child. She loves her friends, and knows a few names: Colin, Kai, Liza, Braden, and Sarah.

She always tries to yank the glasses off our faces.

She is a fast and steady walker. She can tear a** on her hands and knees if she really needs to speed things along.

She loves to play "gonna gitchu!"

She has incredible climbing skills. She can climb up and down from things with ease. In our gym class, people are always running over to try and catch her...then they realize she knows what she's doing when she drops off a ledge.

She can do a somersault, and will be starting a real gym class in March.

When she gets bored, she rolls around and kicks her legs in the air.

She rolls around and kicks her legs in the air at church.

She loves her preschool class.

She is saying two word phrases now. The first phrase was "that dino." The second was "cat--go!" when she saw a cat tear out of the bushes.

She likes to feed the goats at Happy Hollow

Her first (and last) three word phrase was "take it off!" when I had on a shower cap.

She has no fear, and goes down steep slides face first.

She loves the rides at the various amusement parks.

She can blink on command.

She loves to snuggle up in Papa's pocket and watch a short tv program. So far, she likes Yo Gabba Gabba and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She gets into it--clapping, dancing, and squealing.

She loves animals, especially dogs and cats.

She has a screeching, pterodactyl scream. It's unbecoming.

She doesn't mind getting dirty. When I empty the bath, there's a layer of silt left behind.

She's trying to figure out the water dispenser. She goes over with her various glasses and "fills" them up with water.

She hangs out in lancer's room when he practices his guitar. She sits on his guitar case, and strums along to the guitar when he lets her.

When she says no, she emphatically shakes her head back and forth.

She is still a great eater, napper, and sleeper.

She's a total social butterfly. She loves meeting new people, and being in the mix.

She is extremely funny. She's mastered the art of the fakeout. Oh, here, have a cracker. JUST KIDDING!

She is a total Daddy's girl. She rarely calls out for me.

But she loves me. I know because she snuggles up and says "love ya!"
